Visiting Mulligan Lake

I worked on this yesterday and pieced the squares into the background. I don't love it, but I'm going with it. It'll be covered with trees anyway. I think eventually it will look better. I need to get the swans painted and the reeds made, that will give the foreground life and make me stop looking at the background.

Sometimes I find my pieced backgrounds boring in the beginning, but as the piece progresses and I stand back, those backgrounds really add depth and interest.

I think it's going to be a great piece!

I can just imagine that background adding great shadows, light and sparkle as it peaks out from behind the trees.

It's tough sometimes when you are doing layered work to totally visualize how it will all work together. It takes some real patience and faith. Nice rich greens!

Even with just the paper templates in the foreground, I still seem to initially focus more on them then the background. Then, I notice the wonderfully pieced background and am glad for those details, too. It's going to be gorgeous, and you already have a beautiful beginning!

Hi Kath!

I think it is going to be beautiful! I love the pieced background and I'm sure the additional foliage will add great texture.
